In addition to the Twinsburg Public Library’s Policies, Makerspace and Media Lab users are required to follow the procedures below. Violations may result in disciplinary action at the Library Director’s discretion.
Users
- Patrons 18 and older may use the Makerspace or Media Lab with a valid library card or government issued ID and a signed Registration Form on file.
- Minors ages 14–17 must be accompanied by an adult or have a signed parental/guardian Registration Form on file.
- Children 13 and under must always be accompanied by an adult.
- Capacity Limits
- Makerspace: 16 people
- Media Lab: 4 people
Rules of Use
- Food and beverages are not permitted.
- Do not tamper with the equipment. If a problem occurs, ask for staff assistance.
- Equipment must not be left unattended during use.
- Limited supplies of consumable materials and storage devices are available for purchase, all materials used must be paid for at the end of the user’s session. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own pre-approved materials.
- Patrons may bring their own staff-approved equipment.
- Patrons must check in with staff before using the space and notify when finished.
- Patrons are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and returning furniture/equipment to their original condition.
- Staff are not experts on all equipment and cannot provide full project guidance without a scheduled coaching session but may offer brief assistance as needed.
- Staff have the right to halt, delete, or prohibit the creation of items that violate any local, state, or federal ordinances, regulations, laws, or library policies.
- The library may issue fees for repairs or cleaning resulting from misuse.
- The library is not responsible for:
- Injury while using the Makerspace, Media Lab, or their equipment.
- Lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Makerspace
- The Makerspace and its equipment may not be monopolized for prolonged periods of time by a single user or group.
- The library cannot guarantee specific times of access to Makerspace equipment.
- Furniture may be rearranged but must be returned to its original condition after use
Equipment Levels
Patrons must follow the color-coded system for all equipment.
- Green – No experience necessary
- Yellow – Users are expected to familiarize themselves with the equipment before use. Options include:
- Red – Staff use only
- How to videos
- Step-by-step instruction guides
- Scheduling a one-on-one coach with staff
Media Lab
- While the Media Lab has some soundproofing, patrons must avoid excessive noise that disrupts the library environment.
- Furniture may not be rearranged.
Reservations & Session Length
- Media Lab reservations are required and may be made up to one week in advance. Walk-ins are permitted if space is available.
- Media Lab reservations may be used for the conversion or creation of media only, see staff for designated study rooms.
- Each patron may reserve the Media lab for a maximum of 8 hours per week.
- Patrons must leave the room at the end of their reservation; additional time requires staff approval.
- Patrons who have already used their weekly 8 hours may request same day reservations. These will be granted only if they do not conflict with reservations made by patrons who have not reached their weekly limit.
- If a patron is unable to keep their reservation, they must call the library to cancel.
- Reservations may be canceled if the patron has not checked in within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time and may be reassigned to other patrons.
